Rugnar’s Raiders Squat army update

Some updated pics of my Squat army. Still far from done, but looking pretty good. Lots of little conversions in this force. I am especially fond of the 5 mobile gun units that act as Tarantulas. Plus the two custom scratch built Landraiders.

I always play dwarves in any game I play. Warhammer 40k is no different.

The Order of St Maynard (SOB)

My sisters are the first army I have ever finished painting, completely. I took some better lit photos with a better camera and here are the new pics!

Acroyer Knight Titan

My Acroyer Knight Titan for my Imperial Armies. Made from a random mech model, the head of an Acroyer Micronaught, gun from a mech warrior toy and Gatling cannon from a GI Joe bike.

Building a better Landraider

Step by step scratch build of my new Squat Landraider. This will be for Kris Kringle and his acolyte retinue.

I built the bones of this out of chipboard, using a template I found online. My first Squat Landraider was made from a pattern I made myself, which I since lost.

I printed the template onto letter sized pieces of chipboard on one of the big printers at work. I cut it apart with utility knives and scissors and glued most of the pieces together using white glue, holding it together for drying with rubber bands.

i also used odd bits and bobs from random kits in my bits box. I crafter the twin las cannons from plastic tubing I got from my hobby shop, combined with parts from a GW Landraider.

I also sketched out and decoupaged a Dwarven face on the fron hull.

I have armed the tank with a very old multi meltas and a hunter killer missle.

I Need to find some time to toss some paint on this. It’ll be gold and reds, fitting for Kris Kringle! Remember my squat army is fashioned after Kris Kringle and Rugnar and all the North Pole dwarves from the comic.

More to come, soon.

Barry

Edit: Finished Landraider

Gaming and I

Well, specifically, Role-playing shaped me.bom-cover

It has grown me as an artist, an actor, a writer, a world builder and a storyteller.

I spent many years playing Dungeons and Dragons with my friends. We even played IN social Studies behind my teachers back. D&D flourished my imagination and ability to create characters.

I played D&D through Middle and High school. I played with a great group of friends in college, one of whom, John Burris, I collaborated with to flesh out his system, written on 6 note cards and created out own game that replaced D&D at Edinboro University.

When out of school, I played more D&D, more of our own game, named Backwaters of Mysticism, Call of Cthulhu, Feng Shui, Deadlands, Star Wars, Warhammer 40k (ok, not a RPG, but I use a lot of it in my comics). All these worlds they created for their games showed me what I needed to do to create the world in which all my comics exist.bom-second-ed-cover

And, yes, ALL my comics exist in the same world. Phineus, Kris Kringle, Creephunter, even Bastard Who. I’m kind of obsessed with doing that, for some reason.

Ironically John and my own RPG doesn’t have a world. We created it so that it would fit into any world you wanted it to.

Many of my Phineus stories came from those games. Rugnar and Maynard are both characters I played in Backwaters. The Kali Saga was based on a campaign run by John, in which I played Brother Maynard. And yes, he did get squished in that one, too.

Many comic creators are also avid gamers. Adam Black, creator of Locus is working on his own game. Brian Babyok, creator of Weirdlings also plays D&D, religiously.

I am toying with the idea of running some Skype based Backwaters games for my fans. As I gather interest and ideas I’ll let you know.

Games are good for comics.

The History of Phineus: Dwarves

Kris Kringle

The mighty dwarves! They first appeared in “Against the Giants“. They are an amalgamation of Norse myth, D&D and Warhammer 40K squats! I love these guys!

Saint Maynard Banner

Squat Landraider Close up

My completely scratch-built Old style Land Raider. Based on the Old Rogue Trader version that I’ve never been able to get a model for. I am really proud of how this one turned out.

My Squat Warlord, Rugnar the Grim

My Exo armored Warlord Rugnar the Grim.

Squat Bikes

I created these from a very deep Bitz box.
My inspiration was the bike Vaughn Bode’s Cobalt 60 rode in the old 60’s comics.
You can see the bikes in action in my comic here.

Warhammer 40,000 Banners

Some banners I did for my different armies. Done with markers.

Squat Warriors

Squat Retinues

Squat Transports

These are the leaders of my army, Rugnar the Grimm, whom you may remember from here, as the Warlord and Living Ancestor Kris Kringle, from here. Rugnar’s is actually in “Against the Giants”, too!

The more war-like nature of the dwarves will show up in a later story line!

Squat Landrader

So, the Squats are a discontinued race from 40K, sort of space dwarves. I ALWAYS play dwarves in any game I try, any version of them, so I HADto play the Squats. That said, there are no longer any rules to cover them, so you have to substitute with other army lists. I use Daemon-hunters with Imperial Guard allies.

I chose a land raider to build because in the fluff, the Squats are the engineers of a lot of Imperial tech.

The Squats are the modern take I had for Kris Kringle and his dwarves, and in turn, I fashioned my army after the Dwarves in my comic. Neat how that works out.

Warhammer 4ok and Squats are © Games Workshop.

ULTRAMARINES Movie – Trailer2

This looks pretty bad-ass. I love me some Warhammer 40K!

Sisters of Battle Banner

This is a banner drawing I did for my Sisters of Battle army, the Order of Saint Maynard. That is Brother Maynard from the story Maynard and Grimm, fighting a naughty, naughty Daemonette. I always had such fun with the artsy side of the Warhammer 40k hobby!

Magnus, Imperial Frogz Chapter master

Magnus ver Magnussen, the leader of my Space Marine chapter, the Imperial Frogz. I named him after the World’s Strongest man!

Updates!

Greetings, all!

I have been diligently banging away at stuff, the past couple weeks.
I have no new Bio for June 2, as I spent a good part of the past week redesigning my websites. I needed to have the Comicgenesis and Drunk Duck sites match what the NEW Rampage Network site will look like.

I have up to page 12 of “Zombie Rat Uprising” drawn, so I have a nice buffer.

My page count so far this year is 64, so I’m a little behind schedule. I have a good excuse, I spent ALOT of time prepping my print/PDF download pages for the NEW support section on my site. I have nothing up at Wowio, yet. The Print versions of the first two Volumes should be available soon. Drive Thru and Cafepress are up and running.

Here is a pic of a sister of battle for you.

Gotta run, I have yard work and a pool to open!

Word.
