Here’s the baddies for the Module I’m working on. Sorry about the lack of pages this week, I’ve been in game mode. I run the game the first time this weekend. I’m a little nervous!

Here’s the baddies for the Module I’m working on. Sorry about the lack of pages this week, I’ve been in game mode. I run the game the first time this weekend. I’m a little nervous!

Here’s the first two board setups for the session of Backwaters of Mysticism I’m running later this month. Knowing our group, we won’t get this far. Due to PCRPD (Player Character Role Play Distraction).
I’m getting pretty excited!!!

I was going through all my gaming stuff (mostly Backwaters of Mysticism) and I found all my old character sheets. I’ve played a LOT of RPGs. Backwaters became my different groups’ go to system. . We mixed up the worlds with we played in. Some straight up fantasy (Rugnar was my Dwarven Priest if Thor), modern, modern fantasy, some space sci fi, Super heroes, Kung Fu, westerns, etc.
I really dig a lot of the character sketches I’d done for the characters, and no one has seen them. I thought I’d share them with you guys. You may see some of these guys show up in future comics, now that I’ve rediscovered them.

So the tokens match the character sheets. I’ve also made “generic” versions of the characters, so that when they are played, the player can do what they want, despite the comic canon.

When ya gotta go, ya gotta go, despite important exposition going on!

I’m going to do some play testing, soon, before I run this against my gaming group. It’s been a very long time since I’ve GMed a game! YEARS. Should be fun, though.

So, here’s a bunch of the token figures for my game. I have a bunch more to cut out, zombies, more monsters and gribblies, but it’s coming along. The player characters, have a bunch of designs to choose from, but the party will be 7.
Thi is fun stuff to work on.

Taking a little break and doing another Sketch card comic. This time, a rematch of Phin and Rotwang from Issue#6 “Rotwang”.
New Boy Wizard page up tomorrow (Friday).

Just stumbled on this relic from days gone by. That time Combo Magazine reviewed our Role-Playing Game… favorably. Fun stuff!
The 2nd edition, Phineus Roleplaying Game is available for sale on Amazon!
Buy one here: Phineus: The Role Playing Game: Backwaters of Mysticism (Phineus + Magician for Hire)

I got an idea off insta Nicolas Giacondino to do sketch card comics. Tiny little original comicbook pages! Fun stuff!
I may do a series of these, mini mini comics. They’ll be sold with my other sketch cards at conventions and shows.
Here are my actual character sheets of the comics heroes, that I actually played in game. Rugnar was actually a character in a fantasy world campaign.
I have a whole tabletop RPG, but I’d like to develop a miniature based tabletop game along the lines of a Talisman or Space Weirdos. I’ll continue to fiddle and test things out at a gaming weekend I have coming up this summer.
Phineus Beam

Sara Beam

Rugnar Grimm

Brother Maynard

Father Ben Billings

I’ve been messing around with an idea to do a space story about a bunch of aliens who get stuck on a derelict space station. I’ve been finding some cool tabletop war/RPGs that have inspired me. I’m not sure if this’ll go anywhere, but here’s what I’ve been fiddling with.
And this story is finally done. Took way too long. Depression and anxiety are for reals.
Up, next, Maynard and Grimm’s final 8 pages, then Boy Wizards!

The Phineus Role Playing Game: Backwaters of Mysticism!
An endlessly detailed and flexible tabletop RPG, created by my buddy John Burris and myself in college and fleshed out over the years!
The Complete Phineus Volume 1 (3rd Edition)
The first volume of the long running comic series. Phineus and Sara Beam fight monsters, vampires and more. She shoots things. He casts spells.
Includes the first 6 issues of the series, plus a brand new exclusive story, A Nice Day for a White Wedding, not seen in other editions!

Here’s the game piece for Sara. I have ones for Rugnar and Maynard done already. Need to do up Ben and maybe Duncan. These will be usable in the RPG/ Tabletop game I’m developing.
So, if your a fan of Phineus, you’ve noticed that it’s been on hold for a while. This is all mostly due to health concerns. Spent quite a few nights in the ER in recent weeks and months. I’m feeling much better, physically, but I need to get my mind back in the game and fight the constant pain in my hands. While I am artistically hampered, I can occasionally get some drawing done.

What I have been able to get accomplished, is some printable 2D figures that can be used for One Page Rules’ Grimdark Fantasy Infected Army. This army just so happens to be based on the Phineus’ Cthulhu Cult, so it will end up being usable in an upcoming RPG/Board game I am developing. It’ll be based on my own Homegrown RPG (which is available on Drive Thru RPG) as we speak. I’ve been developing a hybrid RPG and Talisman-like game for Phineus.
I have a bunch of Pics over on my blog, of the stuff I’ve been working on, as well as all the comics in the archives. It’s just a bummer that all this happened during the 30th anniversary year. Stuff happens, I guess.

Stay tuned, I’m not done, just regrouping and trying to get healthy. I hope next year will be more productive.

I have been working on my One Page Rules Infected Colonies. I’ve based the army on the Cthulhu Cult I use in my comics. I’ll also be doing double duty with the figs, by using them as the baddies vs Phin, Sara and the gang’s figs for a special edition of my RPG set. So, finally back to doing some work. Comics are coming, as well.
Well, specifically, Role-playing shaped me.
It has grown me as an artist, an actor, a writer, a world builder and a storyteller.
I spent many years playing Dungeons and Dragons with my friends. We even played IN social Studies behind my teachers back. D&D flourished my imagination and ability to create characters.
I played D&D through Middle and High school. I played with a great group of friends in college, one of whom, John Burris, I collaborated with to flesh out his system, written on 6 note cards and created out own game that replaced D&D at Edinboro University.
When out of school, I played more D&D, more of our own game, named Backwaters of Mysticism, Call of Cthulhu, Feng Shui, Deadlands, Star Wars, Warhammer 40k (ok, not a RPG, but I use a lot of it in my comics). All these worlds they created for their games showed me what I needed to do to create the world in which all my comics exist.
And, yes, ALL my comics exist in the same world. Phineus, Kris Kringle, Creephunter, even Bastard Who. I’m kind of obsessed with doing that, for some reason.
Ironically John and my own RPG doesn’t have a world. We created it so that it would fit into any world you wanted it to.
Many of my Phineus stories came from those games. Rugnar and Maynard are both characters I played in Backwaters. The Kali Saga was based on a campaign run by John, in which I played Brother Maynard. And yes, he did get squished in that one, too.
Many comic creators are also avid gamers. Adam Black, creator of Locus is working on his own game. Brian Babyok, creator of Weirdlings also plays D&D, religiously.
I am toying with the idea of running some Skype based Backwaters games for my fans. As I gather interest and ideas I’ll let you know.
Games are good for comics.
