I, yet live. Been dealing with a lot of health related stuff, which in turn, has lead to a lot of mental related issues. Trying to work through it.

Cole 2D Game Mini

1636032548234 Here’s proof that I am working to get back into fighting shape and drawing again. Trying to strengthen my hands. The car accident’s injuries have turned into carpal tunnel in my hands. so holding a stylus can be a bit painful. Luckily, my heart and breathing issues are becoming more manageable, and losing 22 pounds has helped quite a bit.

I have a few more of these and then I hope to get back into comic pages. I’ll post some prep work for “Barcrawl of the Damned” as well.

Phinmagic’s Hiatus update

So, if your a fan of Phineus, you’ve noticed that it’s been on hold for a while. This is all mostly due to health concerns. Spent quite a few nights in the ER in recent weeks and months. I’m feeling much better, physically, but I need to get my mind back in the game and fight the constant pain in my hands. While I am artistically hampered, I can occasionally get some drawing done.

What I have been able to get accomplished, is some printable 2D figures that can be used for One Page Rules’ Grimdark Fantasy Infected Army. This army just so happens to be based on the Phineus’ Cthulhu Cult, so it will end up being usable in an upcoming RPG/Board game I am developing. It’ll be based on my own Homegrown RPG (which is available on Drive Thru RPG) as we speak. I’ve been developing a hybrid RPG and Talisman-like game for Phineus.

I have a bunch of Pics over on my blog, of the stuff I’ve been working on, as well as all the comics in the archives. It’s just a bummer that all this happened during the 30th anniversary year. Stuff happens, I guess.

Stay tuned, I’m not done, just regrouping and trying to get healthy. I hope next year will be more productive.

One Page Rules Army

I have been working on my One Page Rules Infected Colonies. I’ve based the army on the Cthulhu Cult I use in my comics. I’ll also be doing double duty with the figs, by using them as the baddies vs Phin, Sara and the gang’s figs for a special edition of my RPG set. So, finally back to doing some work. Comics are coming, as well.

The Eyebrows Have It

This was a compilation of eyebrows I drew while drawing Weirdlings, collected by my buddy Dan Greenwald. I used to start every drawing with eyes, so no surprise I like animated eyebrows.

Phineus + Magician for Hire

I’ve merged the Phineus and Magician for Hire sites. It just seem counter productive and seemed I was competing against myself, constantly.

I have all the Phineus, here. The Magician for Hire comics will post here, as well. And all bonus stories will continue to post here, as well.

Teen Wizard stays on it’s own site, as does Maynard and Grimm.

Hopefully it all makes sense, so keep coming back and I’ll keep making stuff.

Tablet Tutorial

I switch easily between my phone and my tablet. Here i show how i do my thumb nails in my notes program on my Note 9.

Flatting the colors on the fist ink layer. You’ll notice I always have a darker brown or gray layer beneath, to disallow white from peeking through.

Color flats shown, along side the layers I created for backgrounds, effects, colors, inks and the like. More complicated pages have many, many layers.
Flatter colors shown with a 30% red overlay layer to give the scene a reddish creepy look.

Text is added, first. The program has a number of built in fonts. The desktop version of the program allows you to use your system fonts.
Drawing a circle around text, using the elipse tool.
Adding a text balloon tail myvdrawing freehand using correction set to 20, for maximum smoothing.
Use the fill tool and fill the balloon and tail with white.

For decades, I made comics in a very old school way. I penciled and inked on paper, scanned the pages and colored and lettered in InDesign. Mainly because I couldn’t afford a graphics tablet or a Surface Pro.

A couple of years ago, I found a free program called Medibang Paint that is really great for making comics. I had a Galaxy Note 8, now a Note 9 that comes with the best stylus in the business, built-in. I created many comics, using my phone alone, small screen and all.

Recently, I was able to upgrade and get myself a Galaxy Tab A 10.6 for about $350. This acts much like the phone, I’ve been using, with a much bigger screen. I am able to run the same program on a larger screen.

Medibang also allows you to share between devices, easily. So, I find myself using my phone for parts, swapping to my tablet and back again.

I have plotted out my progress shots of how I build a page, on two mobile devices. Cheap. Easy. Effective.

Process post

Here are the process steps I took to create the best explosion I’ve done, to date. It was a bit if a different process, drawing in many layers of color, but i think it’s effective.

Rugnar’s Raiders Squat army update

Some updated pics of my Squat army. Still far from done, but looking pretty good. Lots of little conversions in this force. I am especially fond of the 5 mobile gun units that act as Tarantulas. Plus the two custom scratch built Landraiders.

I always play dwarves in any game I play. Warhammer 40k is no different.

Mind Flayer

Writing

I’ve been largely writing my comics on the fly for the last couple years, but all the comics I’m doing are giving me issues keeping it all straight in my head. So, back to my thumbnail book!
Now, I don’t write like normal people do, I draw out the panels and jot down text and dialog. I’ve always said I only write because I need something to draw.
I have a renewed fire to do more comics, so if I fall behind on any one story, don’t worry, it’s because I am doing another one.
