Hail, hail the gangs all here. Phineus, Sara, Rugnar, Maynard and Cole! And also, their pal, Hellboy!
Most are Reper miniatures, Phins head and most of Rugnar are from Frostgrave Wizards sprue. And bits from Stargrave and Games Workshop, too!
While I try and figure out what I am doing with my comics, I am continuing to paint through my pile of shame. I got some of the newer D&D minis and painted up a Beholder and a Grell (both seen here accosting my Imperial Navy).
I’ve also dug out some 30+ year old Ral Partha minis that I never got around to painting. I painted up a dragon and an Otyugh.
I also painted up a Gryph Hound for my Breachers’ Cyber Mastiff and my Hrud Rangers for my Ordo Chronos force, along with a proxy Jokaero Weapons Smith for my older Inquisition lists.
I have a bunch old old Ral Partha Star Frontiers and Gamma World minis that are on my hobby table, should be fun to paint them up!
I’m having a lot of fun drawing old school paper, pencil and pen. Plus these give me something really unique to sell at shows. I have 2 coming up, soon.
This may be the earliest pic of Rugnar, with his party for a medieval campaign of Backwaters of Mysticism run by game creator John Burris. I ended up porting Rugs to modern times and my Phineus comics. In this setting he was a priest of Thor and his lightning came from Clerical magics.
Here’s the first two board setups for the session of Backwaters of Mysticism I’m running later this month. Knowing our group, we won’t get this far. Due to PCRPD (Player Character Role Play Distraction).
I’m getting pretty excited!!!
I was going through all my gaming stuff (mostly Backwaters of Mysticism) and I found all my old character sheets. I’ve played a LOT of RPGs. Backwaters became my different groups’ go to system. . We mixed up the worlds with we played in. Some straight up fantasy (Rugnar was my Dwarven Priest if Thor), modern, modern fantasy, some space sci fi, Super heroes, Kung Fu, westerns, etc.
I really dig a lot of the character sketches I’d done for the characters, and no one has seen them. I thought I’d share them with you guys. You may see some of these guys show up in future comics, now that I’ve rediscovered them.
So the tokens match the character sheets. I’ve also made “generic” versions of the characters, so that when they are played, the player can do what they want, despite the comic canon.
When ya gotta go, ya gotta go, despite important exposition going on!
I’m going to do some play testing, soon, before I run this against my gaming group. It’s been a very long time since I’ve GMed a game! YEARS. Should be fun, though.
Sorry about the lack of pages, recently. I went on vacation to see my family for 2 weeks and , while I have 2 pages pencilled, I’ve been working on stuff for the Role Playing Game. I am doing character sheets of all our heroes for a Game Module called “Terror of the Cthulhu Cult”. It will be play tested this August at our gaming group’s “Hutzcon”.
The Module, when done, will have lots of background, characters, scenarios, and printable tokens for the heroes and monsters. I’ve been wanting to do this project for YEARS. I’ll post stuff as I get it done.

I did another couple of these to warm up. They’re fun, and you get bored doing the same old head shots for sketch cards.

I got an idea off insta Nicolas Giacondino to do sketch card comics. Tiny little original comicbook pages! Fun stuff!
I may do a series of these, mini mini comics. They’ll be sold with my other sketch cards at conventions and shows.

I’m playing with penciling on paper, inking and coloring digitally. Mix things up a bit. I like digital art, but im trying to recapture something I lost in the transition.
Gotta be weird to talk to your younger self…
And that is the end of our Maynard and Grimm storyline. It was started as an experiment for the local Pittsburgh comic group, 7X7. We disbanded in 2020, but I never like to keep anything unfinished, so I finished it. I am still working on the last few pages of the M&G bonus story over at my Patreon, “Night Before X-mas”. All will be included in a trade paperback, that may be available this spring!
This month into April, I’ll be finishing up the year long commission story I’ve been working on, as well completing “Maynard and Grimm” and “Boy Wizards”. I just finished up “Barcrawl of the Damned”, recently, as well. All these projects dragged on far too long, due to my car accident and also dealing with my depression and anxiety. I apologize for that.
Once these loose ends are all tied up, I’ll be starting on 2 new projects, both collaborations with friends of mine.
The regular ongoing story will be “Queen of the Cold Night”, written by Brian Babyok and art by me. This will post MWF on the main site, starting in May.
The bonus story will be “The Midnight Isle/ isla de medianoche” a collaboration with Shawn Atkins and is a crossover of Phineus and his Explorers of the Unknown. He’s written a treatment, I’ll be drawing the story and Shawn will color and dialog. Updates will post jointly on both of our Patreons. This should also start in May.
So, that’s our plan. I want back to multiple pages a week, and regularity in making.
