Here are the pencils for pages 12-16 of “The Brain Eaters”. I have all the pages pre-ruled and printed out, then I pencil with blue and some black leads. I have started inking the bottom of page 12. I always ink bottom to top, for some reason.
There’re creepy eyeless people, vomit and glowy orbs! Without giving away the plot it’s very retro 60’s paranoid sci fi!
The script/ thumbs are completed. I have pre-printed ruled pages all printed out. I also have 3 pages drawn! Glenn Csonka is doing colors on it, for me! — with Glenn Csonka.
Damn, I’m old.
Yup, I’ve been drawing Phin and Sara since I was in high school. Sure it was vastly different than it is today, but the same characters and themes are still in place.
As this is a bit of a milestone, I’ll be posting oldies and stuff I’ve never shown anyone, throughout the year, as a retrospective on the labor of love I’ve wasted spent the last 1/4 century producing!
Enjoy!
Here’s what Phineus in 2012 is looking like:
http://phinmagic.com #ndca
1. “Mother of All Monsters” by Jon Towers (starts next week!)
2. “The Brain Eaters”
3. “Creephunter 3” by Me and Mikey Wood
4. “Baby Talk” by Chrissie and Me
5.”The Contessa”
6. Phineus: Animated #3 -a 24 Hour comic
7. Christmas special
That’s the plan, we’ll see how it all plans out!
Edit: I also forgot about the Explorers of the Unknown cross over I’ll be doing with Shawn Atkins and Seth Fronzoli. I’ ll have to squeeze that in, too!
This is my version of the Krampus! Expect a story featuring him, next year!
Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukka and all that, guys! Peace!
ODK’s very own Barry Linck, creator of Phineus and The Gentleman’s Chronicles, will be doing his very own Death Boy comic for the fine chaps across the pond, who do Death Boy.
Barry’s comic starts this Friday and runs for a couple weeks! Head on over and check it out, and while your at it, read up on their archives!
Great minds think alike, I guess. Adam Black from LOCUS, sent me this pic of a cover from an old House of Mystery! Thanks, Adam!
Well, this new challenge starts, today! James and Barry will be attempting this, this year, actually creating 30 new characters, 1 each day of the month on November!
It should be great fun and maybe we’ll both bet this challenge as well! We both beat the 24 Hour Comic, why not this one!
In addition, there are 778 others attempting it as well!
Keep checking the http://www.30characters.com/ site for updates all through November!
Just in time for Halloween, “Legend of Sleepy Hollow”. I haven’t seen this one since I was a kid. Still awesome and creepy after all those years.
Been doing sketchcards booth for upcoming shows and to try and get a gig doing them for reals. They’ve been sent off to the people at Marvel to approve, so keep your fingers crossed!
This was pretty fun. I’d have played an SNES Doctor Who game.
Michele Miller has done it again, with some awfully cute and creepy felt monsters, just in time for Halloween! Hop over to her site at http://runredrun.com/ and see her felties and see her process!
My good buddy Glenn Csonka, has been toiling away at building a fantastic steampunk Pittsburgh for his upcoming Phineus Prequel, “Agnes Beam: Witchunter”. Glenn has really nailed a Disney Animated-esque style for the two main characters, Phineus’ great, great Grand-parents Phineus J. & Agnes Beam. I’m really digging this stuff!!
I’ll be set up at PIX, Pittsburgh’s own Indy Comics Expo, this weekend. Why not come down and hang out and buy stuff from me?
I found this digging through old stuff. A very early Sara sketch from way back in 94. I think I used this as filler art in one of the original publishings. I kind of like it.
Photos from 2011 24 Hour Comic challenge in Pittsburgh! My fifth attempt in 6 years and my first completed 24 page VICTORY!! It will post in November!
We’re returning to the Pittsburgh Toonseum for My 5th 24 hour comic! Joe Wos and the awesome folks down at the Toonseum have rolled out the red carpet for us to take on the challenge again! Come on down and be a part of the fun! We’ll be doing a podcast over G+ Hangouts with James Riot over in Longbeach, as well.
This was my original cover for the Complete Phineus Trade paperback, when I had only one! I love Sara’s pose on this one.
Here’s an old drawing I did of my buddy Brian Bayok’s characters, Mel & Laurel, caught in a compromising situation! It’s my pencils with Tim Etchison’s inks over them! A blast from the past!
I was digging through my old portfolio and came across this from 1999.
When I started working on my second volume of Phineus, after Phin had his heart attack in “Rotwang”, I knew I wanted to change his look. This was what I was looking at doing. Giving him a more dressed up look, and cane, as I was going to have him walk with a limp. I went more scruffy than fancy, as you know by now. Still, I kind of dig this one.
Phineus meets Moltaire
