Production Blog- “Terror of the Cthulhu Cult”

image

So, this are pages from a one – off story featuring Fr. Ben Billings, my bad-ass priest and demon hunter.

I am creating the story free-style. Freestyle is what I call writing and drawing a comic without a script. I just sit down and start drawing. It’s very liberating and fun to do it this way. Sometimes a bit frustrating. If nothing else, a bit surprising.

This is 7 pages of a story I had guessed would be 6-7 pages long. I am nowhere near the end, so it’s growing like some ancient forgotten thing in the basement. And I’m loving it. We’ll see where the story takes it.

And, yes. Father Ben kicks ass for the Lord.

Concept art from Glenn Csonka’s “Agnes Beam”

From Glenn Csonka’s Facebook page:

“Working on some concept art for Barry Linck. This is Phineus Beam‘s great, great-grandmother, Agnes. Playing with 1895 fashion (“leg o’ mutton” sleeves) and lot’s of purples and mauve.”

Contest!

I have an Easter Egg hidden in one of my posts on the site. The first person who tells me where it is, gets a free original artwork! Yes, it’s been going on for a while, but now, I’ve fixed the navigation, so it should be easier!

Go forth and good luck!

Site issues fixed!

So, in speaking with people at the Mini-con last night, I found out that I had some navigation issues that I was un-aware of. I believe I have it all fixed. In dealving into the issues I noticed that I was getting a weird issue with the comic viewing in IE. I fixed that one, too.

If there are any issue with the site, navigation or anything that keeps you from being able to read the comic, please shoot me a line and let me know!

Sorry for the inconvenience!

#NDCA #pittsburgh #comic

“The ToonSeum Announces the First ToonSeum MiniCon.

This MiniCon will be a two day expo dedicated wholly to celebrating and showing of the lively world of Pittsburgh’s small press comics and zines creators.

The programming for the MiniCon will include ongoing workshops and several discussion panels. There’ll be music DJ’ed by WRCT Pittsburgh, homemade potato kale/sauerkraut,mushroom,carrot pierogies and plenty of activities for kids.

Similar to PIX: The Pittsburgh Indy Comics Expo and last years Pittsburgh Zine Fair, the ToonSeum MiniCon is all about creator owned work. As such, the role of this MiniCon is to showcase and promote the work of self-publishing comics artists, cartoonists and zine creators as well as that of small-scale publishers in Pittsburgh.

The mission of the ToonSeum is to celebrate the art of cartooning. Our goal is to promote a deeper appreciation of the cartoonists and their work through hands-on workshops, community outreach, cartoon-oriented educational programming, and exhibitions of original cartoon art.

As such, this first MiniCon is our way of fostering the arts in Pittsburgh in as direct a way as possible. The idea with this MiniCon is to continue nurturing the creative community that exists in Pittsburgh by creating a lively space exchange of ideas and artwork.

Come by, have a blast and support the arts! “

Getting to know each other…

So, I told you, last week, that Phin and William Feist would be crossing over. It fits, as they are both paranormal comics and we “live” in a shared universe of Old Dying Kitty. The Path and Phineus share a clear background. Now, too Feist and Phin will, as well.

I hope we’ll be seeing more of this kind of thing as we progress.

Going into this sort of thing we need to get a feel for the other teams characters, so The Feist guys Calvin and Vaughn and I have been bouncing ideas around. It’s gonna rock.

Below are Calvin’s versions of my guys and then my versions of their’s. I think they are getting ripped off. Cal’s stuff rocks!

Monsters and Crossovers

So, currently, I have 3 crossovers in the works:

The hiatus’d “Trinity” with LOCUS & the Path (which we are planning on starting up again, soon, here), A crossover, tentativly called “Barcrawl of the Damned” with EXPLORERS OF THE UNKNOWN & an unnamed story crossing over with ODK’s own WILLIAM FEIST.

So, some awfully great stuff coming out, very soon!

Here are some monsters that may be in these stories… just having fun drawing critters!

Production blog!

Here are the pencils for pages 12-16 of “The Brain Eaters”. I have all the pages pre-ruled and printed out, then I pencil with blue and some black leads. I have started inking the bottom of page 12. I always ink bottom to top, for some reason.

There’re creepy eyeless people, vomit and glowy orbs! Without giving away the plot it’s very retro 60’s paranoid sci fi!

The Brain Eaters setup.

The script/ thumbs are completed. I have pre-printed ruled pages all printed out. I also have 3 pages drawn! Glenn Csonka is doing colors on it, for me! — with Glenn Csonka.

Cover step-by-step

25 years later…

Damn, I’m old.

Yup, I’ve been drawing Phin and Sara since I was in high school. Sure it was vastly different than it is today, but the same characters and themes are still in place.

As this is a bit of a milestone, I’ll be posting oldies and stuff I’ve never shown anyone, throughout the year, as a retrospective on the labor of love I’ve wasted  spent the last 1/4 century producing!

Enjoy!
