What Up!

Thought I’d show you this . I’ve been toying with the idea of going to this old style cartoon for an upcoming very silly story for Phin. I used to do a whole series of comics in this style back in High School. It’s fun to draw like that, might be good for the story.

Also, I just finished up the last of the pages of Creephunter #1, if you are not already reading it, check it out!

A shit load of pages…

So, as I was counting how I was doing with my page count so far this year (40 so far), I got to thinking,just how many pages I have done in my adult life.

Now I drew a lot in Middle/High School, but none is very professional. So I counted all the pages I’ve done since leaving High School. This does not count sketches or most pinups. It counts story pages, covers and the odd professional pinup. It also doesn’t count non comic artwork.

As a rough estimate I’d say @ 800+ pages done since 1988. Keep in mind 199 of those were done last year and another @ 100 the year before. My output is escalating. And I gotta say, my quality has vastly improved as well. Something to be said for the more you draw the better you get.

As Chuck Jones once said to me,” Every artist has a certain number of bad drawings in them, the key is to get those out of the was early.”.

Practice , practice, practice.

What I’ve been up to.

I’ve been pretty busy, so far this year.

I have drawn 10 Phineus pages, all for the upcoming ” Jaguar Paw” story written by Brian Babyok.

I’ve done the strips for the yaer so far, amounts to about 6 more pages.

I spent the better part of two weeks, NOT drawing, but prepping 400 + pages for the upcoming print versions of Phineus. It will be available, soon, over at INDY PLANET http://www.indyplanet.com/ It’s an online independent comic book store!

I have finally finished the lettering on the last 12 pages of Sara: One Shot. I just have the front cover coloring to do , now.

I’m in the home stretch. I have 12 more pages to the story. # 29 is mostly pencilled. I’m hoping to get it done in the next two-sh weeks. Yay!

You’ll notice no new Sara page today, I have it drawn, not lettered , yet. I have been inundated.
I will post it, tomorrow or Thursday. I am on track for the Weirdlings strip, tomorrow, though.

I was talking to Brian earlier, about an article I saw on MTV news about the Kubert School, cool spot, look for it. However , when I mentioned that I had wished I had gone there, he mentioned what did I think my style would look like if I had.

Interesting, I may have already gotten into being a “Professional”, but my style would be too, cookie cutter. As it stands, as I whack away at this comic thing, I have MY style, good or bad, it’s mine.

Years to come, I’ll be known, by my style, because it’s me. Sergio Aragones, Stan Sakai, Matt Wagner, Mike Mignola, etc, all have very distinct styles (not that I am any where near as good), but what’s that guys name doing Deadpool? Who knows? I’d rather be ME that be an instant success, god knows I’ve been at this long enough!

So, I’ll keep at it, honing my skills AND my style!

Sara : One Shot Page # 3

Sometimes you get into a swing and draw with out realizing what you’ve drawn. Today I post two pages, or rather two versions of the same page. The first one is the first I did, I pencilled it and inked it, and realized I did it in the wrong style. I shifted into my Wierdlings style and had not noticed til it was done. The second is my redo in my usual , less cartoony Phineus style. Sleep deprivation is a real bitch!!
