Weirdlings

I’m not sure if any of you regular readers of Phineus have read or are also fans of the other (now finished) web comic I did. The Weirdlings strip was started by Brian Babyok and I and ran for 3 1/2 years. It started as a webcomic sit com about a guys who lived next to Cthulhu, and warped into so much more! Weird, disturbing, wonderful and damn funny, I am very proud of the work I did over there. If you haven’t read WEIRDLINGS, head on over and check it out!

What an awesome, if not exhausting weekend!
First off, my parents were in town for my daughter’s First Holy Communion, so I got to have out with them a lot, had the church and party thing on Sunday. Good times with my fam and my in-laws. Good people all around!
Me, Harold Cupec and Jon Towers at the Stigmata Studios booth.Saturday was the Pittsburgh Comicon. I set up with the multi-talented and really cool, Jon Towers. Jon is the mastermind of The Non-Standard Assembly and Stigmata Studios. Really, if you are not already reading NSA, you don’t know what you’re missing! Get yer asses over and read his stuff!
Got to hang with Scott Hedlund and Stephanie who both manned the Strumhaus table, as Brian Babyok was just visiting and Dan Greenwald was off in Ohio doing S.P.A.C.E. Divide and conquer, baby!
The Space Monkey crew, as always, are a trip, led by Mike Wood (Hate Your Friends, Creephunter, Pocket Pulp Project), along with Al Durantes and Kristin Ross.
Ricochet studios was hopping with Marcel Walker and his costumed heroines Jami Marlowe & Tracy Bartosh. Plus Wayne Wise debuted his long awaited follow up to Grey Legacy!
Met a fan, and fellow professional, Stephen Wittmaak, that I hadn’t seen in years, when he was in high school. He stool there, amazed that I was still kicking around. He had bought a Phineus comic or two, while in High school. He said I was a big influence and he even had a ponytail in HS , just like Phin! Cool! Love that! His stuff is awesome, check it out!
Mark Menifield was set up and has been pumping out work at an alarming rate. His stuff will be available online soon. I’ll post url’s when that happens!
I got to put actual faces with internet personas, as I met Harold Cupec, in the flesh and fellow WCP Collective members Chris Maverick and Chris Flick! Good times!
I wish I had more time to hang out with more people!

The Annotated Mage: The Hero Discovered
Mirrored from Phinmagic.com.
This is a pretty cool site. It summarizes “Mage” and gives alot of background into it as well.
Mage is the groundbreaking comic by Creator and comic god, Matt Wagner.
If you are as big a geek about Mage as I am, you’ll dig it, too!
He breaks down each issue, points out major plot points, and shows the mythological roots of the characters, monsters and themes explored in the series.
Really well thought out and well done. Check it out!

Cosmic Hellcats
Mirrored from Phinmagic.com.
I wanted to do a comic plug for Cosmic Hellcats this time around partly because they plugged Phineus a while back and partly because we Pittsburgh Guys need to stick together!
This comic is brought to you by Chris Maverick (Writer/Photographer) and Maximilian (Art).
The comic follows the adventures of a band of Cat-girl space marines of a sort. There are aliens, space pirates, robots and evil science! Cosmic Hellcats is a space opera and pinup comic all rolled into one!

The other neat twist to the comic and the site is that all the girls are based on models, that Chris has photo-shoots of. The girls also make appearances at shows and look hot, sign autographs and pose for pictures. Chris also has lots of galleries of his other photo-shoots as he is a very accomplished photographer!
Head on over to http://cosmichellcats.com/ and check out all their great stuff!

Phineus Review @ Karmic Debt
Mirrored from Phinmagic.com.
Hey, in conjunction with Webcomic Planet Collective’s Comic Plug Circle, I got an AWESOME review of Phineus over at Keith Smith’s Karmic Debt!
Keith does a fun Comic strip/Sketch blog and writes excellent reviews!
I especially love his HOW TO section! Head on over and show him some love by checking his comic out!
Score! Thanks, Man!
Epic Fail!
Mirrored from Phinmagic.com.
So, it’s “Plug Circle” week over at The Webcomic Planet Collective. This is where we , as members, plug each other’s comic on our own sites, and vice versa.
This round I decided to do Amy Letts’ EPIC FAIL. I decided to do this one as Amy and I have a lot in common.
First Amy’s and my screen names are taken from our main characters, her’s is Amuletts, a thief/cleric of the story.
Next, we both write and draw fantasy comics. Granted, mine is fantasy/horror/sci fi and is modern, but at the core it’s all fantasy! Obviously, we both love and were deeply affected by D&D.
Lastly, both comics don’t take themselves too seriously, there is a good deal of the funny and the fun.
Now, Amy’s take on the classic fantasy story is very classic. I see it as sort of a cross between Larry Elmore’s Snarfquest and The D&D TV cartoon from the 80’s. I’m not saying that that’s where Amy got her influences, as she lives in England and I’m not sure if they even had that cartoon or Dragon Magazine, but that’s what her stuff reminds me of.
Additionally we have both done Guest art for each other, which I have already posted on the site, here & here.
The comic is great fun and really well done, so go check it out. Now is a perfect time to get in on it as Amy is starting the story back up soon and it gives you guys time to read the archive and be ready for the comics return!
Now, go, swiftly and show her some love!
