So, I have no new comic up today. I have been getting ready for the Wizard World Pittsburgh show. These are some of the cards you can buy from me at the show. I am available to do commissions, custom sketch cards and have loads of books and things for sale. If your in or around Pittsburgh, this week end, come on over and see me!

Well, roughly 28 years ago I created Phineus and Sara. They were not the same Phineus and Sara that we see today. They weren’t married, they didn’t work together, per se and Phineus wasn’t even human.
The characters came about from watching too much “Highlander”, playing too much Dungeons and Dragons and reading too much of Matt Wagner’s “Mage”.
Initially, Phineus was supposed to be some sort of extra-dimensional, magic wielding hero. He was sent to our world to track down and destroy demons whom had some to our planet to take over.
Sara was to be an innocent bystander, stuck in the middle of this battle, that Phineus was there to save, which is bullshit, because Sara doesn’t need saved by anyone.
but, you can see what my fevered, 17 year-old brain was grasping at.
Aside from random sketches and character designs, the Phineus story didn’t get very far in this vein.
During college, I had a few false starts. Phineus as an art student who discovered he had powers. A street mage who fought bad guys, randomly. A half-assed super hero, of sorts.
It wasn’t until my senior year of school, when I took a comic drawing class that I found where Phineus would go. I was introduced to Will Eisner’s “Comics and Sequential Art” that everything just started to fall into place.
I was required to draw an 8 page story. I did a 20 page issue that ended up being the very first Phineus issue “Dismember Me When I’m Gone” (a nod to Bill Willingham’s Captain Cadaver from “Elementals”).
I did the story, for class, to finally get it out of my head. It turned into a 24+ year obsession.
A
s I continued to write about these characters, I borrowed the “Big Trouble In Little China” method of throwing everything cool you can think of into the story and it’ll probably work. So far, it’s worked pretty well.
Going forward, I worked on other stories, with other people. Brian Babyok was a long-time contributor. I worked on many stories with him Pan, Khosian Protocol, The Creators and Weirdlings. I’ve worked with Mike Woods on Creephunter and Pack of Lies: A Pocket Pulp Mystery. I’ve done other people’s art, sketch cards and have always come back to Phineus.
This world is my Star Wars or Hogwarts. I have a very long story plotted out. I will always tell in, because I can’t NOT tell it. It’s hard-wired into my brain, at this point.
My characters grow and age. The world changes. My art and writing get better. It’s a road map of my growth as an artist. It’s fun and I hope everyone enjoys it.
Edit Again: I will be posting commemorative guest art from other comic artists as they get it to me. I have some exciting stuff coming, so watch out!
An idea by a friend of mine, Dan Butcher and his BRILLIANT comic, Vanguard.
In setting up my new Phineus mirror and setting up the new Members Content site, moving all the non- Phineus comics to sites of their own, I got to counting comics.
Counting all the Phineus World comics, including Teen Wizard and the bonus Members Only Material, I have reached 1600 pages, this week. I guess that’s kind of a big deal, I don’t know.
I will figure out something special to do, shortly, but right now I need to draw some comics!
P.S. If anyone feels motivated to do any kind of guest art, I’d REALLY love it!

It was brought to my attention that the navigation on the site was all kinds of wonky. I checked into it and found that it was caused by the Membership app I was using.
I since decided to scrap that ap and use my Patreon for all my membership content, for the time being. All my bonus members only content will therefor be managed and available on my Patreon.
If you’d like to become a member and gain access to well over 120 pages of bonus comic pages head over to.my Patreon and pledge a couple of dollars to b the cause. There is a lot if fun stuff happening in these bonus stories, so check them out!

So, Barry, why all the big eyed cartoons?
Because they are a lot of fun, that’s why. But also, so I can get all the content from Teen Wizard all under one roof, too while I craft the next serious Phineus arc, The Hollow Earth.

This will be an involved, ongoing storyline that will last for the rest of the year and will see Phin, Sara and some old friends delve into the unknown world that is the Hollow Earth. It will have myth, legends, monsters and magic. All the stuff you guys love about Phineus!

I will be a guest at the 2015 PIX indy comic show in March, along with the best and the brightest in Pittsburgh comic creators!
Come on down, buy some stuff, schmooze with us and have some fun!
I will have copies of the Phineus Omnibi avalable, as well as The Kali Saga TPBs , individual comic issues and more!

These are the prototypes of the two Phineus Omnibus books I have been working on. They are ALL the Phineus stories from day one through 2012. The Kali Saga is it’s own trade paperback. These books are monsters!! 500 page books, each!
These will be up for sale very soon!

Yeah, you can all marvel at my vision! I had Crabzilla in The Kali Saga 2 years ago!
Check out the story here. Is it real, or a hoax?
Yeah, probably a hoax.
We are no longer just one site. We have a whole network of different comics at PHINMAGIC.NET!

I’ve also started a new comic over at 7×7 Comics, Maynard and Grimm, starring Brother Maynard and Rugnar the Grimm, from Phineus! Updates Wednesdays!

So, I’m really excited about a new project Glenn Csonka and I have been working on. It’s called Phineus: Teen Wizard and follows Phineus and his friends in college at Fourier University in the 80’s. It’s going to be all ages and a hell of a lot of fun.
It will go live, proper, in the fall with an on going strip by Glenn and full issues for members around once a month.
This one has got me really jazzed!
